Home Stay Accommodation

The majority of the students attending Pretty River Academy come from an area within driving distance of the school. Pretty River Academy also makes available a limited number of home stay spots for students coming from places like Toronto or Buffalo. These students will stay with a family in the Collingwood area. These arrangements will be confirmed, usually by a visit from the prospective student and their parents, before final acceptance is granted to Pretty River Academy.

Pretty River Academy is located in Collingwood Ontario, less than a two hour drive from Toronto.

Located on 47 acres of protected environmental wetlands, with direct access to the Collingwood trail system, PRA offers a superior facility, indoors and out.  The school has an internet network, and all classrooms are equipped with SMART board interactive whiteboard technology.  A fully equipped computer lab, art room, teaching kitchen, science labs and music studio provide a variety of experiential learning opportunities.  Physical activity is emphasized at PRA and the school features a gymnasium with a sprung wood floor as well as outdoor artificial turf fields.  An outdoor classroom, direct access to the area’s extensive trail system and the backdrop of recreation abundant in the Georgian Triangle make for limitless opportunities.

Language and culture

Collingwood is a small Ontario town noted for its winter activities, beaches and other recreational activities. The language spoken is English. This being a smaller town of 15,000 people, there is not much non – english spoken – which may be useful for a student who needs to fine tune their english language skills.


Tuition is outlined on the Fees page. In addition to the tuition fees, other expenses include the home stay fee outlined above, plus incidental ‘pocket money’.

Academics & Academic Success

Students who attend Pretty River Academy most often attend University upon graduation. Our success rate and success stories speak for themselves.

Academic courses are intensive and will result in homework and other tasks.

Sports and Recreation

Pretty River Academy offers sports like basketball, soccer and volleyball. In addition, there are some students for whom ski racing or another individual sport is important. PRA will work with the student to make sure that these commitments can be satisfied, while at the same time keeping academics the number one priority.

Each year Pretty River Academy goes on a canoe trip into the Canadian near north – students meet each other and learn canoeing skills.


Pretty River Academy has a school year that runs from early September to mid June each year, with two week breaks at Christmas and mid March. Exact dates are available for any year are available by emailing us.
